Now that hurt...

First day of my interval training... I decided to go to work early and run it around the industrial park because it most resembles a running track (well it's nearly flat).

Jogged around and measured a 400mtr distance with the aid of my trusty Garmin, then set down to the task in hand.

Man! Is that different, hard but good. I did 4 lots, walking back to the start again and repeating.

My Times were:

Lap1 = 1:46
Lap2 = 1:40
Lap3 = 1.44
Lap4 = 1.42

I think that I’m going to slowly work up to 8-10 laps by adding 1 extra a week.

Have you ever had one of those days?

Today was dentist day - so I had to get my ass down there before work. I left early and drove down to the surgery. As normal there wasn’t a car space in sight meaning I needed to drive to the other side of town to the pay and display.

I slapped in the coinage and got my ticket. Pressed the alarm button to lock the car… NOTHING. Error! So I had to phone the Dentist and rearrange my check up until next month. Next on the hit list, the RAC - 1hour later and the engineer told me I needed a new alternator (which will take a few days to come) and battery. Both of which he couldn’t supply.

So he got me home, and I had to ring around and order a alternator and then to make matters worse, go to the shop and pay for it up front. But even the journey to the auto store turned into a nightmare (6 sets of temporary traffic lights) - I eventually got to work at 11.30 and a huge backlog of work all needed ASAP.

I worked like a mofo all day - got home late changed the battery and whipped out the alternator.

Next on the hit list was my 3.5 mile run. Got that spanked - I’ll get the stats another time.

Last but no means least, wine and food - I still haven’t eaten all day, and I’ve still got to sort out all the crap for the Barging Hunt meeting tomorrow…

Week number 2

After half a nights sleep over the last 3 nights I'm a bit tired. The small person is slowly starting to get better, thank goodness.

Headed out for my lunchtime prescription of 3 miles. And I must say it was pretty hard going :-/ Managed to do it in 31 minutes, but it just felt hard. Hopefuly after a good nights kip I'll be back on form :-D

Distance 3.00 miles

NoSleep.com

The fun sized person has been ill all day today and also Saturday. She looked terrible when I picked them up from the ice rink yesterday. She coughed all afternoon non-stop then all night, only stopping to be sick :-/

We didn't even try to sleep, instead we watched "Never ending story" and "Home alone 2" (we thought this would knock her out for sure. VHS - got to miss that format. NOT!

So when today's programme of 60 minutes cross training reared its ugly head I didn't know what to do. We own no cross training kit, apart from my bike - and I didn't think it appropriate at the moment to go out for a ride. So I found some steps in the village and ran up and down them for 30 minutes, completely bored and dizzy I decided to use the rest of my 60 minutes walking.

In all I managed to cover 3.26 miles of steps and walking :-)

Here's hoping we get some sleep tonight...I'm not holding my breath. Then again I'm not too bothered I've got "Back to the future" and "The Goonies" lined up for tonight ;-)

Cheap as chips.

Preston came back from Thailand just in time to miss the latest single from the "bloodless coup". So when my phone rang with someone telling me they worked for the BBC I was a little bit suspect.

Rewind 3 months...

Preston and I applied to go on the BBC television show "Bargain Hunt" and never heard anything back.

Fast Forward to this week...
It was a BBC person - the researcher for Bargain Hunt, Preston and I have an interview session this Wednesday :-) LOL! How funny would it be to see us monkeys spending the £350 we are going to be given on a lovely antique piece of tat...

Saturday run.

Today called for a 4 miler. So I dropped the girls off to see this, parked the car and went for a run around Nottingham. I had a really nice slow run and did 6 miles (ohpps 2 too many).

A few stats:

Distance 6.00 mile
Time 1 hour 6 min
Heart stuff Average 153 bpm

No news friday

A day of rest today in my running programme :-) I'm glad of it my legs are a wee bit tired. Long run tomorrow. Good luck to Jogblog for her 5k and everyone else who is out running this weekend.

SHIT!

I was not sure if I should post this today - it’s been on my mind all day long, and I’ve got to get it out into the open.

A rubbish thing happened last night! My friend (our families friend) was killed last night during his bike ride to work L

He was wearing reflective clothing, his bike had lights on and also had a light mounted on his person. This didn’t help him grab enough attention because a driver ploughed into him, killing outright on the road.

I have trained with Simon so many times I can’t count them - he has helped us renovate a house and also build our current home. He was the first visitor to see our daughter. All in all he was a great friend!

It’s rubbish that a few seconds misjudgement have taken his life and left his son without a father and his wife without her husband. My thoughts are with his family, his mum and 3 brothers.

We’re gonna miss you Simon.

Day 4

I'm a super fly guy eye! Last night I managed to get a fly in the eye - which took ages to get out. This morning when I woke up I couldn't open my eye... it was full of eye snot or whatever it is...GROSS!

Managed to get out and do my lunchtime 3 miles. Not sure of any stats as the moment my Garmin hooked onto a satellite it died :-/

That's about all from the joggerblogger :-)

A few stats:

Distance 3.00 mile
Temperature 26/C

Run No3... it's becoming a habit

The family run had a full turn out tonight :-) went really well. Everyone is getting better and stronger.

Did the family loop and went out straight after for my "Tempo run" - misjudged it a bit and ended up running 43 minutes not the 35 recommended. I did 15 mins uphill warm up then 10 mins hard then 18 minutes slow again. I'm really enjoying this programme, it's good having someone telling me what to run :-) But I'm making sure I stretch out when I've finished and also ice both ankles.

Stats:

Distance 4.14 miles
Time 43.55 mins
Temperature not sure, but it was well dark out
Heart facts Max 200bpm, Avg 156bpm

Run No2 done...

2nd run over and out of the way :-) Windtastic today though...all in the wrong direction as well.

Fishing is the new glue sniffing, or so it would seem. Part of my route takes me around a pond/lake thing in a local park which at lunchtimes seems to be more popular than a secondary school classroom. It's full of chav teenagers wagging school drinking cheap cider and fishing! FISHING? i tell you, crazy!

Anyway mini rant out of the way, lets hit the stats:

Distance 4.5 miles
Time 45.00 mins
Temperature 20/C
Heart facts Max 170bpm, Avg 146bpm.

Family run

Family run came around fast... But we had to go out minus one :-( the fun sized one had to sit it out. We had an all nighter with her last night, poor little thing - cold tastic.

We are going to enter a fun run later this year as a team :-D looking forward to it.

Run No1 Done

Went for my first run in the "Training to improve your 10-K time" programme. I took it nice and slow and all seems to be ok, my ankle hurts a little but not too much :-) So onwards and upwards - another 3 miler tomorrow then a 35 min tempo run... just need to work out what that is :-)

I've also recharged the old Garmin so now I can bore you all with some fascinating stats each day :-)

Distance 3.00 mile
Time 31.00 min
Temperature 19/C
Flies 2 - one in the mouth the other in my left eye..eWWW!

Sunday, September 17

Sunday updates..

Fingers crossed i'll be starting my new running programme in the morning (thanks jogblog). Hopefully I'll get some speed gains out of it :-) it is the first time that I've ran to a schedule...

Chemo sucks!
The new improved chemo that dosen't make you sick 10 times a day seems not to be doing what it says on the tin :-( Hope it levels out. Ive said it once and i'll say it again, CANCER SUCKS!

Saturday, September 16

A blog of 4 parts.

Having a great weekend so far :-) Hope everyone else is as well. Here’s my little list of things to blog about.

1 - My ankle is getting better :-D YAH! Can't wait until it's 100% (which I'm saying is Monday) and hitting the streets again (which one would you like me to hit - Mike Skinner or Leo "The Lion").

2 - Had an amazing bike ride today. We went out as a family to the national water sports centre and did a 7 mile ride :-) Which I'm well amazed at, as our daughter couldn't ride her bike a month ago. Bike riding is fun (but don't tell any runners that I said that).

3 - My book "RunFast" came today. Cool. :-P Amazon are quick, I’m going to have a read after I’ve blogged this so I have a new plan in mind for Monday... gotta get quicker.

4 - Physical Education Teachers! why are some of them complete and utter tw*ts! My daughter came home from school yesterday after doing P.E and said that the teacher told them if they walked any of the laps of the field that they would have to do extra ones as punishment. Bearing in mind that her class is made up of 6 and 7 year olds…WELL DONE! Turn the subject that you're trying to teach, in to the punishment! It's no surprise that so many kids hate running! I hope she went home and gave her self a pat on the back for helping encourage her class to do the best that they could.

Well that’s my 4 things. Over and out :-D

Friday, September 15

Ankle update...

It seems to be getting better :-D
I'm going to rest it until Monday (1 week off) then head out again. I've used some of my downtime to tweak my header again...

Thursday, September 14

Everyone can help...

Don't make me badger mad!

Badger

My right ankle is a right mess (no pun intended) - Couldn't sleep last night with my newly found elephant appendage screaming at me everytime I rolled over :-P

I've worked out why my ankle hurts so much - when I was running the half I got a load of blisters on that foot making me change the way I was landing it...hence loads of strain on it :-(

Fingers crossed it will clear up in a week...pleaseeeeeeeee!

In the meantime, say hello to my mad badger :-)

Wednesday, September 13

Now that’s what I call good parenting!

LOL! this made me smile this lunchtime

God hates me...

Well at least the God of jogging hates me! My right ankle (first time) was starting to hurt last night... woke up this morning with a HUGE ankle of doom! :-(

So off to the drug cupboard for some sweeties... Iced it before leaving for work. I'm well smegged off! No speed training or any running for me... I might go with the girls tonight, but ride my bike alongside them.

I hate it when your body puts a stop to your fun! ARRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Tuesday, September 12

HELP!

Sitting back and resting for a couple of days :-) I'm going to start running again tomorrow... but more on that in a minute.

I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that posted comments and supported me with the run :-) and also everyone that gave money towards cancer research.

The hospital run starts again today as Dads Chemo has started today. They need to keep him in overnight once a week when they replace his chemicals...

Running update - I NEED TO GET FASTER! And I need some help doing it. I need a new training programme. I've got my core miles behind me and would like to start turning up the heat. I've read about adding hills, doing speed work, lifting my legs higher etc... But would like to get a training schedule nailed and started as soon as possible to help me with the 10K I’ve got coming up in a month. HELP PLEASE! Could anyone offer advice, websites or books to help me gain some speed :-)

Race update... running on empty

The race was packed, the weather was sunny and it all looked set for a great run. Apart from the fact we couldn’t find a car space, had to rush to the 2 miles from the car.

Well I managed to finish it but I am a bit disappointed with my time L The first 6 miles went well with 8 to 9 minute splits :-) but I thought that I’d take some energy gel just after the 6 mile mark to help me through… BIG MISTAKE.

I’ve never tried it before, took a mouthful and swallowed it, then about 2 minutes later my stomach decided that it didn’t like it’s new carbo resident and ejected it. I have never been sick mid run before, not pleasant and to be truthful I struggled the rest of the race with stomach ache it all ended after 2hours 20 minutes (I must admit there was a point when I thought about throwing myself onto the floor at the side off the road and waiting for the St Johns ambulance men to take me to the finish line).

The course took a new route which made a nice change taking in some new scenery, The whole event was really well organised by sweatshop and the crowds were ace. Once through the finishing line I got my medal and goody bag (no malt loaf though) and headed back to the car. I can’t wait for next year…

PS if you are ever in a rush always look for your decent running socks, my feet are blistered up because I didn’t :-)

Friday, September 8

Well that's about it :-D

My last run before the half (well apart from family running club) :-D

I managed to get a lunch break today... the first one in a week, and headed out for a cheeky 5K jog. Enjoying the free all you can eat fly buffet on the way round, I hope I don't end up with maggots.

All that's left now to do is write my contact details on the back of my race number and sort my iPod play list.

Thursday, September 7

Day 5...

Day 5 of the training plan went well :-) everyone is getting faster and going further in the same time. I headed back out after our session and did 4-5k :-)

I'm not running any long runs this week as I'm saving my legs for Sunday :-P Well that's about it for now...

Tuesday, September 5

Hello world :-D

Work is mad as a badger at the moment - No time for lunchtime runs and Preston is jetting off to Singapore. So I’m facing pre or post work runs, and I’m opting for the latter :-D. I decided to take today as a rest day, my legs are still killing me from the weekends ice adventures (we ended up going skating twice - that 4 times in my life now).

As I don’t have much (well none) jogging related news to post, I thought I’d say hello to everyone who has been dropping by to have a read. I can’t get over how people from all over the globe have a look in :-D.

My webstats tell me that there’s visitors coming from the USA, Canada, Africa, Europe, Australia and Japan. Hope that the blog is staying interesting enough for everyone. I just thought I’d say hi to you all :-D.

Well I promise to get out and put some miles in tomorrow and try and think of something to write ;-)

Monday, September 4

That makes 2

Day 3 of the running plan swung into action when I got home from work and it seemed to be winner again. It really is a good plan for entry level, and my daughter is loving it (we have to keep stopping her running too fast and long). I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all pans out :-D I wished that I had been encouraged to run when I was younger.

After I dropped the girls off, I headed back out for a 3K blast.

Cancer update

Chemo day today :-( Well Dad didn't start chemo today but he had a group meeting all morning then 1 to 1s in the afternoon, then had his line put in. Having a line put in didn't sound to bad, but when he got to the hospital and found out what it entailed...EKK! They have to X-ray you, and then push a tube in your arm, which passes all the way up inside your arm and down next to your heart... This is so the drugs get pumped all the way round your body properly.

Next Monday or Tuesday he has to start his chemo and has to stay in overnight, then back in every week. We have to really keep an eye on him as there is so many things that can add up to making him ill - Time to have fingers crossed again.

Sunday, September 3

Sunday Runner

Went for a blustery 11k this morning dodging all the flying branches and acorns that the trees threw at me on my way around :-)

This time next week I hopefully should have just finished my half :-D and munching on my free malt loaf... apart from I can't eat wheat so I’ll post it to JobBlog who is using it as a pizza replacement at the moment.

Saturday, September 2

Keeping it in the family...

It's day one of a new training plan... the family one. I read an article about the "60 second secret plan" in the livingwell magazine and thought it'd be great if we could all do it as a family. So today we all bit the bullet and went out for our first session.

It is a great plan to get first time runners and especially young children out of the house and jogging.

The first week consists of:
Day1: Run sixty seconds, walk 3 minutes x 4.
Day2: Rest.
Day3: Run sixty seconds, walk 3 minutes x 4.
Day4: Rest.
Day5: Run sixty seconds, walk 3 minutes x 4.
Day6: Rest.
Day7: 30 minutes if fast walking.

Everyone enjoyed it, and we all had a chat and a laugh... roll on the rest of the week :-D

Ps we found out that the conkers aren’t ready yet (they are still white inside) :-(

Friday, September 1

It's after me nuts I tell ya!

I thought I'd jazz my header bar up a bit and seen how pirate mania is running wild in our house I stuck me skull and crossbones up :-) not really a running theme - but I like it :-D

After a couple of days resting (my ankles biting back) I got my trainers on and did an 11K this morning. Not much to report apart from it was raining and cold (winters on it's way - summer never lasts long). When I got back home I frightened the squirrel that has moved into the garden, he/she was hanging off the hazelnut tree trying to get the last few nuts from off the top. He/she saw me open the gate and fell off :-D hehe! But don't worry no harm was done and it run off up a tree to safety.

Hope everyone has a good weekend, I'm off work today :-P and going to the ice rink in a bit with the small person.
