Day 3 of getting 40 miles a week done for December and I managed to put in a lovely quick 6 miles. At this rate I should be in credit before the end of the week. Even though it's tough to get out the door at this time of year running is so good for clearing your mind.

December Miles = 17 miles

Cancer is CRAP update
I haven't blogged in a long time about Dads cancer because as anyone who has had the misfortune of being touched by cancers stinking finger, all you seem to do is wait, wait and then wait some more. After all the operations and months of chemo we had hoped all was well. Apparently not. We are waiting to hear what the full story is and options, but it is just crap! Cancer can just go and F*CK OFF!

Cancer update…

I thought that it was about time for another cancer update. Things have been quiet on the cancer front of late; Hospital visits have been going on in the background but nothing major to report about really. Fingers crossed it all seems to be going well. Really well.

Since chemo finished he has slowly started to put weight on and is getting stronger day by day. We know he is feeling better because he is starting to moan that he now has to shave again and even worse have haircuts.

The doctors say that the lump on his shoulder doesn’t look like another cancer and has started to shrink (insert huge smiley face). The only thing that is now left to remind us about his operations is the food bag plumbed in to his side that he still has to have everyday. But he is working hard at eating more and more (a bit hard when you don’t have a stomach I imagine) so that he can get rid of it ASAP.

I’d just like to say thanks to everyone out there in blogland (you know who you are) that helped me out through the last year and a half – It has been the worse times and also some of the best times of my life. Two great friends taken way too early and the whole cancer nightmare. It has taught me one thing – make sure you enjoy every single minute of life that you can.

4+4

Did a 4 miler yesterday lunchtime and another 4 today. :-)

Sorry it's been blogger lite at the moment - but it's due to the fact that cancer sucks!

He was meant to go in Friday for his last stop over chemo session. But they didn't have a bed so it was rearranged for Monday. He had been complaining of a pain in his shoulder and Friday he was in agony with it and it carried on hurting all weekend. The cause of the pain... a lump that is getting bigger and bigger.

Fast forward to Monday just gone, and he was admitted to hospital for his chemo. When I got there after work everyone was trying not to cry. Turns out that the lump in his neck/shoulder looks like it is cancer...B*STARD!

So instead of celebrating his last hit of hospital chemo we now have the sh*ty waiting game to play all over again. It's not fair!

Every time it seems things are starting to look up it turns sh*t. When he completed his prostate treatment and it was gone we should have been able to celebrate - but no, we were told he had stomach cancer. After he had his stomach removed they told us it had spread to his lymph system. And now after 6 months of hardcore chemo we should be planning holidays - but no, thanks Big C we can't.

Life stinks sometimes...

Cancer update

I haven’t done a cancer update for a while, but wow have we had a great (not) couple of weeks. Firstly he should have gone in for chemo two Fridays ago, but the hospital didn’t have a bed free on Friday so said that they would have one on the Saturday.

Saturday came and went, no bed. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday no bed. I felt really sorry for him as everyday he would get himself mentally prepared to go in for another round of chemo - which is really hurting him now, also the thought of knowing that he is going to be physically unwell for at least 2 weeks after doesn’t help.

Friday came Yah! A bed. I dropped him off at the hospital and waited with him to be admitted - for some reason they wanted him there for 7.30am. At about 9.30am and still no sign of a Doctor I had to make a move. I went back to the hospital that night at 6.00pm and they had just started his treatment, talk about hanging around.

We finally got him home on Sunday - but needed to make a trip back to the hospital to pick up his meds.

Over the last 5 or so months the chemo has effected him more and more, slowly eating away at his recovery rate in between sessions. It has got to the point now where he can’t even eat or drink so relies on his food pump thing that plugs in to his peg and flushing himself with water every hour.

Today I got a phone call at work - he had been rushed in to hospital because he had collapsed and couldn’t be brought around. So I jumped in to the jog mobile and headed down to the hospital. His blood pressure had dropped really low (an effect of the last lot of chemo). At the hospital he was given oxygen and kept under observation as well as having an armful of blood tests.

We have just got him home and fingers crossed he seems to be ok :-P

One more round of chemo to go in two weeks, then that’s it…
