Day 48

A non run day today. After the weekends 19 miles my legs were a little tired.

Another late night last night - 1.00am and boy did the 6.30am alarm come around way fast.

Instead of a lunchtime run Preston, Matt and I hit the outdoor pool for a swim session. 20 lengths later in the outdoor pool we decided that chilling in the hot-tub was the way forward. I must admit it beats pounding the streets.

But fear not - a date with Mrs tarmac is on the cards tomorrow...

Sunday, April 29

Swimming against the tide.

Just got in from last night’s party and sleepover - great night out J

Managed to get out after ice skating yesterday and put in 10 miles.

I packed my running gear in-case I would manage to get out this morning, and I did. We went to bed about 2.00pm (no all nighter after all) and I got up about 8.30 - 9.00 and went for a run. We had stopped over at a friends place in Derby so I ran through the city centre and out for a 9 mile loop.

The interesting thing was that when I started out they were in the process of setting up a 10k race. When I lopped the circuit to head for home lots of runners were on the other side of the road, heading out the other way all looking at me as if I was lost. It reminded me of that scence in planes, trains and automobiles when the dude shouts at John Candy “You’re going the wrong way”.

Time for a quick blog - then Salsa, I’m going to need a sleeeeppppppp soon.

YAH! it's Friday (Day 45)

Well I didn't get out of bed this morning in time to do a pre-work run...Sorry :-/

But I did manage to smack out a 7 miler later today :-) got to do 6 tomorrow and a 10 on Sunday to get my 30 miles in for the week.

The problem is... Ice skating in the morning then an all night party / Salsa Sunday and then another invite out.

I'll let you all know how it goes along the way.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and also get some good runs in.

PS - It's sad when the blossom falls off the trees.

Thursday, April 26

Day 44

No running today :-/ worked through lunch, and really couldn't get the motivation to get my ass out of the door again once I'd sat down at home.

Going to get up early and go for a cheeky 10miler before work in the morning.

The picture is proof that JogBlog and SoreLimbs aren't the only ones who can grow things - saying that it is only cress and mustard ;-)

Evil monkey toy (Day 43)

Has any one seen my camera case? I can't find it anywhere :-/ and it means I can't take my little camera out and about with me.

So I was forced to take another snap shot from my collection of carboot tat. This is evil monkey (he is a 1970's baby toy) click on the image above to see him close up - He's Lovely! My small person won't even look at him, poor little chap - maybe he comes alive at night and watches over us as we sleep...

No photo yet...

But a quick 4.5 miles at lunch the weather was hot and windy which resulted in me looking like I had a mid run shower :-D

Not much to report apart from a TV film crew filming a radio control 4x4 car at the skate ramp.

Day 42

Wow I've managed to keep snapping up to day 42 :-) and without a picture of me holding a pint of beer or cider.

No run today, just a splash about in the outdoor pool at the local David Lloyd with Preston and Matt from work. It was raining and a little cold, but there is just something so good about swimming outside - I miss being able to swim in the sea :-(

After work the small person has 1 hour at the local swimming club, seeing them guys blasting up and down made me realise that most under 10's in the club can swim so much better than me... little buggers!

Out running tomorrow - stay tuned to see how many empty cans I can spot ;-)

Ps this little robot is one we made at Epcot last year :-)

Run o'clock

Busy at work today (how many emails over 3 days) So when 1.30 came round and it looked like we weren't going to get out for a Monday run, Preston popped his ferret like head up and asked if we were going out... What's this? Preston asking if we were going running. Well I never.

We got out the door to be greeted with England's finest weather, wet and a little bit windy. All the kids have gone back to school now, so we had no one shouting abuse at us in the park. Unlike last week when some overweight chav teenage girl smoking a fag shouted "I can walk faster than that" as we jogged past.

No run tomorrow (unless I smack one out on the treadmill) as I have got a free pass for the outdoor pool and gym :-D

Salsatastic

Week nine of the salsathon and it's still going well. Tonight's session ended up be a ass busting two hours :-) I'm not really sure where it's heading but I'll hang around for the journey.

Gremlin (Day 40)

I think that I've just found the best thing to ever buy if you have only 50p... a Gremlin :-D sweet! Now all I need to do is convince the small person that it isn't theirs.

Adding to my post about this mornings run - another "tale from the road roadside"

I've had a cold for the last couple of weeks, which has produced the most amount of snot that I can ever remember in my life. Whilst on the last stretch of this mornings run I spotted a female jogging down the hill towards me. Never knowing if you should say hello or not, I thought I'd be polite and say "Morning" as we got eye contact. But to make myself look really cool as I said "Morning" my body decided it was a good time to produce a huge snot bubble... What a freak I must have looked. A 36 year old, sweaty hairy snotty jogging stalker. The poor girl ran off as fast as she could. Hopefully I won't bump into her again.

I've just mixed the pizza dough - It's rising as I type, get ready for the photographic evidence later.

Then it's off to Salsa.

Sunday run o'clock

Not one to be able to ever lay-in (because of the small person) I got my butt out of bed as early as possible and headed out for my Sunday run. True to my blog yesterday I put in 10 miles :-)

Off to buy some more tat to fill the house with at the local carboot sale now.

Day 39

Another non run day today :-D My ankle has been playing up again, I think it's going to be something that I have to live with now. So I thought it best not to run back from skating this morning.

I'll put in 10 miles tomorrow which will bring my weekly total up to 30 miles, which is what I've been aiming for :-)

To make up for the non running I've been busy doing house hold duties - Why does the house work multiply when the weather improves? That's why today's pic is of my best ever work trainers :-D

Friday, April 20

yeti1 (Day 38)

Eight more on the slate - another cheeky early start. Eight miles later, time to chill out :-/

Thursday, April 19

Day 37

Off to the beach again :-D this time the weather was ace! I even stayed out of trouble by leaving the chickens at home ;-)

Funny seaside toilet story... I was busting to go for a wee but there only seemed to be one toilet the other end of the beach, and seeing how I had spent an hour watching the small person playing the 2p machines I neeeedddeeeedd to go ASAP.

Hiding at the back of the arcade there was a disabled toilet, after another half an hour it seemed very inviting... I decided that I wasn't too proud to use it and walked past all the pensioners playing Bingo and swung the door open. SCREAMMMMMMM!!!!

There was a 16-17 year old girl sat down doing what you do in the toilet... LOL! I don't think anyone had told her that you should lock the door before dropping your kegs!

It made the old's laugh out loud though :-)

No running today, going to do a 13 miler tomorrow if I can drag myself out of bed early enough... trying to move my long run to either Friday or Saturday as Sunday's are killing me.

Wednesday, April 18

You have been warned! (Day 36)

Went for a lovely meal with the 2 ladies in my life this lunchtime a mix if Indian, Chinese and Thai food was on offer to taste.

The chopsticks carried the warning above - it may only hurt your finger but it bl**dy killed my eye! :-D

It must be a day off work...

Because I woke up at 6.15am and couldn't get back to sleep :-/ ARGHHH!!!

So instead of laying in bed trying to sleep, I got up and went for a run - 8 miles later I'm back home.

Heading off for an adventure today... see what happens :-D

It's all over now...

That's it :-) I've finished work for the week, first holiday for the year. HAVE IT!

Lot's of fun to be had with the fun sized person this week and also a few cheeky long runs.

Another huge PLUS - I've just signed up for the Tower of Terror 13K :-D can't wait...

Day 35

Time to slap these in the old landfill - DOH! it's full! i'll take em and put them in the bag recycle at the local sansbo's.

How comes you end up with a million plastic bags. Shop's should stop giving them away NOW. If we had to pay for them we wouldn't take so many - then have to take 'em back each month.

Green rant over.

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Jogger

A short play by Sir Harry Flashman

[Two young men are jogging along a bleak canal filled with empty cans of strong lager, syringes and strangled women]

Joggerblogger: I enjoy jogging.

Preston: As do I.

Joggerblogger: I like your sweat bands.

Preston: Thanks. I like your trainers.

Joggerblogger: Can I lick your shins?

Preston: Er…

[One young man breaks into a sprint, leaving the other behind. He sinks to his knees and begins to sob.]

Joggerblogger:
All I want is to taste another man’s shin. Is that so wrong? Curse you Preston! Curse you and your lizard-like swiftness!

[END]

Ps we run 4 miles

Salsa week eight...

It's now been eight weeks since I first slipped on my dancing shoes :-D and headed with Mrs JoggerBlogger to the village hall for a spot of salsa.

And we have carried on going...

This weeks lesson was free - as a way of saying thank you for showing up for the last seven lessons. Next week we move up a class (should be interesting). If you want to start come next week to the village hall ;-)

Doctor Lovespoon has hung up his dancing pumps, a no show again :-/

Day 33

Man I need a Sunday to get over this Sunday...
Got up at 6.30am, not by choice but the farmer down the lane seems to love the new lighter mornings because he now gets up super early to shoot things with his well noisy shotgun...BANG, BANG! too loud to ignore.

So I got up and went for a run. I haven't run for a couple of days (still got my cold) so I thought I best put in a long one. 13 miles in 1 hour 56 minutes :-D fastest time ever for me.

Got home, quick shower and off to the car boot sale. That done down to Halfords and get car servicing supplies.

Back home cut the lawns, service 2 cars (the weather is awesome btw) clean the rabbit hutch (small person runs around like a nutter with the rabbit on it's lead).

In to the kitchen and make some bread dough for Sunday Pizza bake...

Now I'm sipping a cuppa and blogging :-D No rest for the wicked though - it's Sunday Salsa soon....

Roll on Monday, I need a break ;-)

Freak!

No run today - we headed for the East coast to bask in the lovely sun (apart from the fact it was foggy and cold).

We had a fantastic time :-D met this little freak in the arcade - check out the rest of his crew on my Flickr pages, Wrong, just wrong!

Day 31

Headphone Friday :-P

Thursday, April 12

A little bit of weasel...

And not of the wicked variety ;-) I forgot to mention yesterday that Preston and I stumbled across a weasel/stoat type animal running alongside the river bank. Preston tried to lure it over using musty armpit odour to no avail (he wanted a new mascot for the office).

I feel like pants at the moment, fighting a cra*py cold, and being mardy about it.

But no rest for the wicked, I had to go for run this lunchtime because...
We had to welcome a new member to the church of run. A long time freelancer dipped his feet into the lunchtime jogging escape crew. Well done to him, a 4 miler to start with! (we did walk a few times, but wow - longer than I could do by about 3 miles).

That's about all from the JoggerBlogger, apart from I hit the eject button at 5.30pm prompt today :-D

Day 29

Busy, busy day today - got out for a quick lunchtime run. Managed to put in 3 miles in about 24 minutes :-D and avoided the glue sniffers.

One of my mates has started a blog today - drop in and say hello :-) click here for more info.

Took a quick photo on the way back to my car (late again) and have to admit it looks pretty nice - my camera can make a cra*py car park look cool.

Anyway gotta go as I think it's wine o'clock.

Tuesday, April 10

Day 28

What do you do with the back of an Easter egg box? rip it up and scribble all over it :-D

Today was back to work day - MAN THAT SUCKS! Don't get me wrong, works ok but chilling out and having fun as a family is soooooo much better.

Preston managed to get his skinny butt out of the door this lunchtime with me for 4 miler. All was good apart from the gaggle of school aged glue sniffers hanging around the park with nothing to do.

Day 27

The weather is unreal - didn't anyone tell the powers that be that it's a bank holiday?

No run for me today, I've got a sore throat and also have managed to do my ankle in again.

Note to myself - DON'T RUN ON UNEVEN SURFACES. I went running in the woods yesterday along a pathway made up of smashed stone. Running on this has set my ankle off again, I must be a freak because my body prefers the tarmac.

Day 26

Well the wedding went well - the Bride looked lovely and our kid loved the limo there and back.

Went for a lovely 4 mile run around Northampton this morning to wake me up after another late night (not too much sauce).

Got home back up north this afternoon, just in time for Salsa. Week seven went well (Dr Lovespoon wagged it again).

The picture for Day 26 is an odd one, It freaked me out the other week when I saw it in the garden... not sure where it came from?

Saturday, April 7

Over our hedge...

It’s odd, well I should say even. I’ve just been thinking about the distances I run and they normally tend to be even numbers, why?

Today’s early morning run was lush. The morning was already warming up, the sky was blue and clear and the air was slightly cool – the perfect time to run. I love spring. I put in a cheeky 8 miles up and around the village.

I hope the weather stays nice for the weekend, but especially for the rest of today as we are off to a wedding this afternoon (another opportunity to have a glass or two of champagne).

Well I’m off – have a good ‘un.

Back on track.

What a few days I've had.

London was fun - apart from working like a nutter on the Wednesday, rushing to the hotel, cramming in to an already overfull tube carriage that broke down (at this point I was questioning why I had my winter coat on..sweat, sweat, sweat - then I remembered that I had left home at 6am when it was cold).

When I got to the hotel (which was very, very nice) I had 5 minutes to have a shower, iron my shirt and get suited.

I Rushed out with one of the guys from work and headed off down Park lane to find the ball room at the Dorchester. We went in the door down the stairs and realised we had came to the wrong gig - not a design awards but the Muslim Journalism awards. Making a swift exit stage right we finally found the right venue.

My Mum was right - the ball room is very nice (she used to go dancing there when she was a teenager) the only thing that was odd was a cage suspended from the ceiling full of stuffed birds (at this point I wished I had taken my camera).

2 glasses of champagne later I remembered that I hadn't eaten all day, but fear not I still managed at least another bottle or 2 of house white (it would have been rude not too it was free after all).

The awards where a good laugh, met some cool people who encouraged me to drink more and then went on for some more drinks elsewhere. Got back to the hotel at 3.30am feeling great. That feeling didn't last long though, I had to get up 3 hours later to catch my train back up to work.

How comes when you have a hangover, work is never easy - had loads on but made it! Six o’clock soon came round and signalled the start of a long weekend.

Got up this morning and did a 6 miler. Hope everyone has a smashing bank holiday :-D

Monster...

Did a little cheeky 4 miles on my own today. It was a good run, did 4 - 1 mile laps so the speed was high (well for me) and it has to be the first time in a while that I haven't been worrying about my foot.

I have found another race to enter, and I'm well, well, well excited about it! (yes enough to use an exclamation mark). Rumour has it that there is going to be a race at Disney (WDW Florida) this Halloween. Cool. It's going to be a Mousetastic 13K that's set to start at MGM studios at around 9pm - bring it on :-D that falls smack bang on our trip to Florida. I really hope this race happens.

I'm not running tomorrow - I'm off down the smoke to an awards bash (even had to hire a tux). One of my illustrations (and design work) being used in a UK campaign has been short listed, so I'm going down for some free beer and food and hopefully pick up an award :-)

If I ever set up another design business this would be my logo :-D

Monday, April 2

Jogging and blogging with the P'unit!

How lovely is the spring time weather that has spread across the UK :-D even Preston made a Monday run without any arm twisting.

The warmer weather has marked the return of the lesser spotted train number geek - he sports an ill fitting pair of nylon trousers, a beer belly and head full of badly cut dyed ginger hair. The first time I stumbled across him I thought it was just a jog induced mirage - but NO, Preston witnessed first hand the glory that is "scary train spotting guy" today, be afraid very afraid.

We got jogging and did one - well cheeky four ones :-D

The day seemed almost perfect, but then someone had switched the M1 off and it took over two and a half hours to drive 25 miles home - EKK!

A bit about me…

I work in a highly demanding job, where work needs to be turned around at break neck speed. Deadlines are tighter than my pants and the stress levels are through the roof.

For example, this afternoon I have spent most of my time imagining what it would be like if I had to fight an angry giant squid. Then I drew it.

Salsa went very well :-D it's turned in to 1.5 hours not the advertised 1 - Bargain!
